Walking down the promenade in Mielno, you can spot a particularly interesting monument. The fin of MIG-21 fighter jet with the Polish Air Force insignia marks the spot of an airplane crash of September 7th, 1987 in which 2 airmen from the 26th Fighter Aviation Regiment, Captain Jan Kozyra and First Lieutenant Ryszard Duro were killed. Interestingly, the fin in the monument originates from a MIG-21 jet, while the aircraft that crashed here was a PZL TS-11 Iskra training jet.
