Jamno (village)
Incorporated into Koszalin in 2010, Jamno is a unique place not only in the city, but in the entire region. Its name is probably Slavic in origin and derives from the word "jama" (den). The first mentions of Jamno date back to 1224.
Due to its location on wetlands, for centuries Jamno was completely cut off from the rest of the world for months every year – paved road to Koszalin was not built until around 1900. The inhabitants had to be completely self-sufficient. In their enclave, they developed a unique folk culture and art, combining elements from Slavic, Germanic and probably also Dutch cultures. You can see traces of this self-contained culture in the architecture, handicrafts and customs. One of the most characteristic features of the Jamno culture is the multi-coloured tulip motif.
Jamno also has its unique traditions, such as wedding rituals. Inspired by the local customs, Bałtycki Teatr Dramatyczny prepared and staged a play titled “Wesele Jamneńskie” (The Jamno Wedding) in 2014.
The village has retained its original ring-shaped layout. Jamno is a place everyone needs to see and discover for themselves.
